[Solved] – Svchost.exe Service Host High Memory Usage in Windows 10

Have you ever wondered what svchost.exe is and why it is running on your Windows computer? If you open Task Manager and look at the Processes tab, you may notice there is more than one svchost.exe running on your Windows PC, and you can’t just stop it by killing it within Task Manager.

So, what is it and why is it running on your computer?

According to Microsoft, svchost.exe is a generic host process name for services, which run from dynamic-link libraries. Microsoft has moved all functions of Windows services into dynamic-link library files (the .dll file). However, you can’t execute a .dll file directly from Windows. It must be loaded from an executable (.exe) application. That’s the reason why svchost.exe was born.

  1. What a help. However, it starts real small with 20% usage but gradually increases over time. It wasn't permanently placed at a fixed number. Any more ideas?

  2. It's good for u cuz only one service host but In my PC it's showing 25 service host and taking 100% memory what should I do….?

  3. What if my svchost.exe doesn't use high memories? Is it still in a bad condition? The SysMain only uses 60MB.

  4. Yeah I need help, cant delete svc.host in system32 file because it needs permission to modify files from "trustedinstaller" (though I know svc.host exc is a legitimate Microsoft file but there must be one in disguise) every time I open chrome, and nothing else, it will open literally 21 more chrome's in the background.
