Notoriously Morbid’s Romantically Whimsical Daoine Sidhe Collection

Recently, Notoriously Morbid put out a new collection based on the faerie world, and as much as I’ve loved faeries for years, I was so excited for this! When I was in my teens, I was obsessed with Brian Froud, a well-known artist who created beautiful and whimsical fairy and other fantasy creatures.

So, this collection started me reminiscing, and so I had to pick up at least most of this collection! Before I get into the collection, I wanted to share a few fave Brian Froud images I found on Pinterest. Here is a link to the official site if you want to see more pics!

This collection is sorted into two halves: The Seelie Court and the Unseelie Court. The Seelie Court is generally known as the “good faeries” and the Unseelie known as the “bad.” The colors in this collection fit these two groups so well!

Below are my thoughts and swatches on each of the eyeshadows I picked up:

Seelie Court:
Pay What is Owed – My baggie said “Pay What You Owe,” not “Pay What is Owed.” This is an amazing yellow-green with blue and purple sparkles. The website description here is spot on, ” pale chartreuse with lots of blue sparkle.” This color is absolutely beautiful. I wish I had picked this up as a mini instead of sample. Def going to have to upgrade this soon. It’s a very unique color! I wish my pics would have picked up the sparkles better! It’s so beautiful!

Fight For Beauty – I normally don’t love blue eyeshadows. They make me feel a bit like Mimi from the Drew Carey Show. But this one… it’s very special. It’s a fantastic light turquoise with a TON of violet-hot pink sparkles. The website said it’s “arctic blue with an intense magenta shift,” which is accurate. I am head over heels for this color. Absolutely head over heels.

Love Reigns – This color is a dust rust-rose color with a purple shift and some hidden green shimmers. The website describes this as “A salmon pink with cool blue sheen,” which is accurate, but makes it feel a lot less exciting than it actually is.

Glorious Honor – I picked this up in a mini. It’s a cool blue-lilac with purple shimmers and a green shift. Again, the website description is spot on, “a soft lavender with green shift and lots of pink and purple shimmer.” I really wanted to love this color, but I don’t. I don’t know why. It looks beautiful. I even gasped when I swatched it! But when I wore it one day, I just didn’t jump up and down over it. Maybe I should give it another shot.

Unseelie Court:
Use Your Magick – This was another color where the name on the baggie didn’t match the website, but only a tiny bit. My baggie said it was called “Use Your Magic,” not “Use Your Magick.” This is a beautiful kelly green with bright green sparkles. The website describes it as “shamrock green with green and silver shimmer.” I didn’t see the silver glitter, but still, this color is absolutely beautiful. It’s not super complex, but it’s one of my favorites!

Pure Passion – The website describes this as “a ruddy brown with gold, blue and green shimmer.” To me, this looked like a rust brown with bronze sparkles and a champagne duochrome. This one for me, the description was off. I like this color ok, but I don’t love it, personally.

Chaos Reigns – I am thinking that this one is going to be a favorite of this collection from the general public. It’s a dark purple, aubergine color with a striking bronze/copper shift. The website says it’s “an eggplant purple with INSANE gold and green sparkle atop a slight red sheen.” I didn’t see the green sparkle or red sheen, but regardless, it’s insanely beautiful. Still, this isn’t a color I will wear often.

There is No Honor – I really love this color. It’s a lovely purple-gray color with green sparkles and a strong green shift. The site says it’ a “slate grey with purple tone and lots of gold/pink shimmer and green sparkle.” I didn’t see any pink sparkles, but I don’t care. I think it’s beautiful. I’ve worn it a few times, and it’s very versatile!

With this order, I got two freebies:

Nothing is Trivial – Holy crap. This is intensely amazing. It’s a blue-gray base with STRONG gold and orange duo. The site says it’s “a light wash of golden illumination in a metallic finish.” I am completely in love.

Jarvis – This is a color from an unreleased duo that was sent as a freebie since the Eureka primer wasn’t able to be included with the order. It’s a purple-taupe with large red sparkles. It’s a lovely color, but I’m not sure how I feel about it yet. I’m waiting to see if it grows on me.

I love this collection. I won’t wear all of the colors all of the time, but it fits the theme so well, which makes my fairy-loving self so happy!
